Lucia Santaella is director of the PhD program in Communication and Semiotics and professor of theoretical semiotics at São Paulo Catholic University.

Her fields of study include general and applied semiotics. These studies range from biosemiotics to semiotics of culture and the media, semiotics of the arts, literature and music.
