Revolutionary heresies in Latin America: From José Carlos Mariátegui to contemporary political movements – an interview with Miguel Mazzeo
Deni Ireneu Alfaro Rubbo
In this interview, conducted via email in late 2012, the Argentine intellectual and political activist Miguel Mazzeo discusses the various facets of the living and inexhaustible thought of José Carlos Mariátegui. While focusing on the utopian-religious dimension, the interview also emphasizes international solidarity in contemporary social struggles. More than simply an interpreter of the texts of the Peruvian Marxist, Mazzeo stands out for reviving the heterodox thought of José Carlos Mariátegui by relating it to today’s popular movements, which are increasingly characterized by an irreducible social pluralism that poses immense challenges for social theory and, in particular, for the political praxis of subaltern groups on the Latin American continent.

Keywords: José Carlos Mariátegui, Marxism, contemporary popular movements.
