Social struggles and traditions of struggle in Brazil in the 2000s
Davisson C. C. de Souza

Abstract:
In this article we analyze the social struggles in Brazil in the 2000s using data on protest actions, such as strikes and land occupations, and chronologies of social conflicts. We also propose a dialogue between the current physiognomy of social struggles and the principle traditions of organization and struggle in the country. We highlight the social structure and the experiences of struggle as elements that explain the transmission of the historical patrimony of the workers. In addition, we present some reflections on how to think about the class character and centrality of the union, popular, and peasant movement in the overall social struggles in Brazil.

Keywords: Social struggles. Straditions of struggle. Unionism. Popular movement.
