Memories of the Paris Commune
Louise Michel

Abstract:
Lutas Sociais opens this special section with a brief text by Luise Michel, one of the principle combatants of the Paris Commune. Because of her convictions about the workers’ cause, she became known as the red virgin; an ardent defender of secular education, she also struggled for the armed participation of women in the revolutionary process. She was convicted and deported to New Caledonia, where she remained for eight years until she was amnisitied with the rest of the Communards. In what follows, we present a passage from her Memoires.

Keywords: Paris Commune. Revolutionary Clubs. Sexual equality.
