Lulismo, Brazilian social movements and the social place of politics
Maria Orlanda Pinassi

Abstract:
I comment on the bourgeois old age of Brazilian politics, something that is recognized by the most demanding mentors of neoliberal policies, not only because of the efficiency with which Lulismo mediates between the interests of big capital and the inevitable products of the pattern of accumulation that is currently being imposed (structural unemployment, hunger, and environmental destruction) but also because its greatest gift is to do all this without provoking any substantial change in a country historically marked by chronic colonialism, endemic social inequality, a low ranking in the production of capital goods, scant generation of technology, and weak stability in its domestic economy and politics.

Keywords: Lulismo. Politics. Social movements.
